Over 15 years ago, when the Xbox 360 "Red Ring of Death" epidemic began, I wasn't just a gamer—I was obsessed with understanding why things failed. While everyone else was wrapping their consoles in towels (a terrible idea!), I was learning about lead-free solder cracking, thermal cycles, and BGA rework.
What started as a hobby in my basement fixing consoles for friends quickly exploded. I realized that the big-box stores and mall kiosks didn't actually know how to repair electronics. They only knew how to replace entire assemblies, charging customers hundreds of dollars for a $5 part.
From Hobbyist to Professional
Today, Tim Can Fix It is a fully equipped electronics lab in White Oak, PA. I have invested in industrial-grade microscopes, hot-air rework stations, and ultrasonic cleaners. This allows me to perform micro-soldering repairs that other shops claim are "impossible."
Whether it's rebuilding a melted trace on a PS5 motherboard or fine-tuning a 3D printer to within a millimeter of accuracy, I treat every device like it belongs to my own family.
