Common Laptop Symptoms
🔌 Needs to be wiggled to charge
If you have to hold your charging cable at a specific angle to get power, the internal DC Jack has broken off the motherboard. We desolder the broken jack and install a new, reinforced port.
⬛ Turns on, but the screen is black
If the fans spin and lights turn on, but there is no image, it could be a failed RAM stick, a bad BIOS update, or a failing GPU. We plug it into an external monitor to isolate the failure.
☕ I spilled coffee/water on it
Turn it off immediately and do not plug it in! We perform ultrasonic cleaning to remove the sticky residue and micro-solder any blown capacitors or resistors on the motherboard that shorted out.
🐌 Takes 5 minutes to boot up
If your laptop uses an old mechanical Hard Disk Drive (HDD), it is structurally failing. We can extract your data before it dies completely and clone your system to a modern Solid State Drive (SSD).
Screen & Chassis Repair
Dropping your laptop doesn't mean you need to buy a new one. We source exact OEM-match LCD and LED panels to restore your display to perfect clarity, including high-refresh-rate gaming monitors.
Often, a drop will shatter the internal plastic mounts that hold the screen hinges to the bottom casing. If your laptop "splits apart" when you try to close it, we can replace the bottom chassis or reconstruct the mounting points with industrial epoxy.
We Fix The Logic Board
Most computer shops are simply "parts swappers." If your laptop won't turn on, they will tell you the motherboard is dead and quote you $600 for a replacement board.
At Tim Can Fix It, we read the schematics. Using multimeters and thermal cameras, we inject voltage to find the exact microscopic chip that failed (often a $5 mosfet or capacitor) and replace it under a microscope. We also utilize our Industrial BGA Rework Station to fix failing CPU and GPU chips.

Unlike big-box corporate stores that immediately wipe your drive or send it to an off-site facility, we perform all data recovery and drive cloning locally right here in our Pittsburgh lab.
